Meghan Markle would have ‘smashed’ Netflix show if she hadn’t made one mistake | Royal | News

A Royal pundit has delivered a scathing critique of Meghan Markle’s fresh Netflix series, alleging it could have been successful if the Duchess exposed more of her true self.

The commentator in question, Bronte Coy, highlighted a segment from ‘With Love, Meghan’, where the former ‘Suits’ actress, 43, is seen gift wrapping. During the episode, Meghan remarks about once conducting classes on the craft while seeking acting roles.

Reflecting on this moment to The Sun, Bronte expressed: “She’s gift wrapping and she mentioned the fact she used to teach a gift wrapping class when she was an auditioning actor.

“That in itself is not a fact that’s not going to change the world, but it’s a moment of personal reflection that could have been an interesting anecdote about who Meghan really is and who she was before Harry.”

Bronte criticised the show for its superficiality: “Instead of going into that in any way, they kept talking about the gift wrapping, immediately whooshed straight past it, and that’s kind of what the show felt like…

“The people she’s obviously trying to emulate, the Gwyneth Paltrows of the world, the Jessica Albas of the world, who have these billion-dollar lifestyle companies.”

Finally, Coy insisted on the need for more glimpses into Meghan’s personality: “But they had also sold themselves as personalities for years, we don’t have that with Meghan yet so we needed to see a little bit more of her personality inter-spliced with this aspirational living and I think that would have worked.”

Bronte noted that Meghan frequently started to open up about something personal on her show, only to swiftly shift the conversation or refocus on the task at hand.

She commented: “There were so many times during the show where she began to say something wildly interesting or personal then just completely steered away and talked about an egg yolk instead.”

While Meghan has faced intense criticism for her television endeavour, she has also received praise from some quarters.

Recently, PR expert Edward Coram commended her behaviour during the Invictus Games, telling the Daily Express: “Meghan’s involvement was always going to be a no-win situation – criticised whether she showed up or not.

“But at the end of the day, it became a distraction for a lot of people.”

He added: “That being said, from a PR perspective, she handled it well. She was engaged without being over the top, and affectionate without coming off as too staged.”
