The Liberal Party of Canada overwhelmingly selected Mark Carney to serve as its new leader in a vote on Sunday. Carney replaces Justin Trudeau, the outgoing Prime Minister of Canada, who has led the North American nation for the last 10 years.

In January, Trudeau announced his intention to resign from office after his party named a new leader. Carney is expected to officially replace Trudeau as prime minister when Parliament reconvenes later this month.

While Carney has never held elected or political office, he has been in the public eye for several years. He’s had a long career in finance and has spent time in multiple countries. Carney has also outlined his philosophy on economics in a book and elaborated on his vision for the country in a speech following his victory.
