The coverage of Israel’s efforts to defend itself against Hamas and its other genocidal enemies leaves something to be desired. The mainstream press continues to cite the work of the “Gaza Health Ministry” or “Gaza’s Palestinian health authorities” in reporting on Palestinian casualties, as in this March 20 Reuters story or this 2024 Wall Street Journal story.
To borrow a phrase from Auden, all the reports agree. The word “terrorist” is to remain unsaid. “Militant” is the word. How militant can you get?
You have to wonder if they are trying to get it wrong, or rather how long they have been trying to get it wrong. Former IDF spokesman Jonathan Conricus gives us a glimpse of the BBC at work. They don’t want to get it right. But you already knew that.
