Summer of Love, Part 3 ?

It looks like we’re being set up for another summer of riots courtesy of the Democratic party. Scrolling down the homepage of The Hill newspaper, the further you go, the more alarming it gets. Sample headlines include:

Ocasio-Cortez takes on assertive new role as Democratic anger grows.

Ocasio-Cortez rips Colorado Republican for not holding town hall.

Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez rallies against Trump policies could set stage for new protest movement.

You will have noticed the common thread: everyone’s favorite Bronx Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York). Apparently, the New Yorker has Presidential ambitions, having qualified for the post by turning age 35 last fall.

Although I’m too young to recall the riots of ’68, I lived through the George Floyd summer of 2o20 as a resident of the Twin Cities. Personally, I’m not looking for another sequel to complete the trilogy.

Apparently, the narrative goes something like this: Trump ’24 voters are furious that he and Elon Musk are, for real, carrying out their campaign promises to rein in a runaway federal government. Hence the widespread vandalism against Tesla vehicles. But when the weather turns warmer, we’re looking to jump it up a notch.

I’ve noted how Democrats, such as Tim Walz, are holding their own staged “town hall” meetings to drum up opposition to the President. The Hill describes the crowds now attending these Democratic meetings and quotes one Democratic activist as hoping,

“They’re going there and looking around and being like, ‘Oh, I’m with 1,500 people.’ In the future, when we ask them to come out into the streets, they’ll be like, ‘I won’t be alone,’” he added.

All of this sounds even more bizarre when you look at the polling. The Washington Examiner‘s Byron York reports on the latest numbers, which are surprisingly strong for Trump and Musk. York says,

Even with the anti-Musk campaign, there is still strong support for the DOGE effort…

Thirty-three percent said DOGE should continue, while 28% said it is needed but should slow down. On the other side, 33% said it is reckless and should stop, while 4% said there is no need to cut federal spending. Add 33% and 28%, and you get 61% who support the concept of and the need for DOGE. That’s a solid majority — still solid after all the attacks.

But don’t let the facts get in the way of a good, old-fashioned riot.
