4 a.m last call | Power Line

In perhaps an idea whose time has come, the California legislature is considering AB 342, a bill to extend the last call for alcohol in bars to 4 a.m. in certain areas, KTLA reports. The bill passed committee late last month and is now awaiting further action by the full Assembly.

The bill would allow two extra hours on weekends (and perhaps some holidays) for serving alcohol in locally designated “hospitality zones.” This being California, fees and pages of additional restrictions would apply to the extended serving hours. The effort is designed to revitalize downtown areas of the state and is sponsored by a Democratic Assemblyman from San Franciso.

The bill would take effect early next year as the state hosts some World Cup soccer matches in 2026 and the Olympics in 2028.
