There are a number of issues on which Democrats find it hard to believe that they are in the minority. Generally, for instance, they think they own the education issue: we all want good educations for our kids, so let’s spend more money on the schools! Don’t worry about results.
In the minds of Democrats, being against the Department of Education is the same as being against education. Never mind that the department is of very recent creation, and has little to do with the provision of education, which is overwhelmingly a local responsibility. Still, I was a little surprised to see this: “Department of Education: 51% Say Shut It Down.”
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 51% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of the executive order Trump signed last month, including 37% who Strongly Approve. Forty-seven percent (47%) disapprove of Trump shutting down the Department of Education, including 35% who Strongly Disapprove.
So it is pretty much the same narrow margin that Republicans hold electorally, and on most issues these days. As much as Democrats fulminate against the outrage of shutting down the Department of Education, the voters aren’t buying it.
