Joe Biden returned to the public stage yesterday evening with a rousing defense of Social Security before a friendly audience in Chicago. Is Social Security under attack? I must have missed the Democrat advertisements of Republicans pushing the wheelchair-bound Grandma over the cliff. Perhaps Biden’s speech was a preview of coming attractions.

The Washington Free Beacon’s Andrew Stiles reports on Biden’s speech in The Geezer Is Back: Biden Says ‘Roughly 30 Percent’ of Americans Have ‘No Heart’ in Crotchety Return to National Spotlight.” Biden appears to be almost as competent now as when he left office a few months ago: “Biden immediately started talking even though his walk-on music—’We Take Care of Our Own’ by Bruce Springsteen—was still blaring at full volume.”

Turning the Springsteen song to the defense of Social Security is almost funny. It could more aptly serve as a condemnation of Dr. Jill and the other caretakers who have ill-served Biden in his dotage.

Videos of Biden’s speech are accessible online. The PBS News video, for example, is posted here. Biden’s hosts cued up the exit music at the end of his speech, but it was instrumental. They should have returned to the Springsteen songbook. The New York Post reports: “When he wrapped up his remarks, a wide-eyed Biden stood at the podium and looked at both ends of the stage before identifying the stairs, pointing at them, and making his exit.” How about “Born To Shuffle”?
