The Left in Search of Meaning

In the 1950s, Flannery O’Connor explored questions of good and evil in her short story “A Good Man is Hard to Find.” Independent journalist Taylor Lorenz might learn from O’Connor’s work.

Lorenz has faced fierce criticism after CNN aired an interview with her in which she appeared to make light of the alleged actions of Luigi Mangione, the suspect accused in the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December.

“You’re going to see women especially that feel like, ‘Oh, my God, right, like, here’s this man who’s a revolutionary, who’s famous, who’s handsome, who’s young, who’s smart. He’s a person who seems like this morally good man, which is hard to find,’” Lorenz said in reference to Mangione before breaking out in laughter.

Lorenz’s comments highlight a widespread issue in some corners of society, most specifically on the radical Left; namely, a struggle to define what is good, true, and beautiful.

Lorenz’s remarks came the same week Circle Jerks’ singer Keith Morris, appearing at Coachella, called for an “army of Luigis,” referring to Mangione.

Coachella, a music festival in California, historically attracts celebrities and the wealthy with tickets starting at $600. Yet, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., attended and delivered remarks to the crowd warning of the dangers of the elite ruling class.

Sanders’ stop at Coachella was part of the “Fight the Oligarchy” tour he and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., are currently embarking on in an effort to “move forward to take on the oligarchs and corporate interests who have so much power and influence in this country,” according to the tour website.

On this week’s edition of “Problematic Women,” we discuss the Left’s struggle to identify itself after the 2024 elections, and we encourage Lorenz to find a better dating pool.

Also on today’s show, we explain the SAVE Act, an election-integrity measure passed last week by the House, and provide the latest news on how the Trump administration is suing Maine over its refusal to comply with an executive order regarding keeping transgender biological males out of girls interscholastic sports.
