Sometimes, I feel bad for the Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) sufferers. As I have said before, these people are fanatics about Trump, whom they believe is the devil, and they seem to be stuck in a doom loop that makes them more and more fanatical about endlessly preaching about all of President Trump’s faults, both real and imaginary, and arguing against anything he is for, regardless of the merits.
Take my coreligionists at the leadership bodies of the major non-Orthodox Jewish denominations. (Please!) Some of the leaders of the Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist branches of American Judaism recently released a statement criticizing the Trump administration’s approach to campus antisemitism, which includes some deportations of non-citizens, including one of a man named Mahmoud Khalil. These Jewish American TDS sufferers argue:
The rule of law, freedom of inquiry, access to vibrant places of higher education, and strong democratic norms and institutions have allowed American Jewry to thrive for hundreds of years…we firmly reject the false choice between confronting antisemitism and upholding democracy. Our safety as Jews has always been tied to the rule of law, to the safety of others, to the strength of civil society, and to the protection of rights and liberties for all…In recent weeks, escalating federal actions have used the guise of fighting antisemitism to justify stripping students of due process rights when they face arrest and/or deportation, as well as to threaten billions in academic research and education funding…These actions do not make Jews—or any community—safer. Rather, they only make us less safe.
To throw some Yiddish at you, because this involves a Jewish theme, this argument by these amoretzes [numbskulls] are totally fercockt [FUBAR]. (The Yiddish I know is all insults. Sadly, I am less educated on Hebrew insults.)
Now, I don’t really need to say much about the sheer stupidity of this argument. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) himself has demolished the “insanity” of it very eloquently, during his questioning of a Jewish American TDS sufferer in a Senate hearing. As the Senator explained, it makes absolutely no sense for the Jewish American TDS sufferers to complain that the Trump administration is “weaponizing” antisemitism against Jewish Americans and others by deporting Mahmoud Khalil from this country, because, you see, Khalil actually is a violent antisemitic terror supporter who hates both the U.S. and Israel, and, whom, until recently, was terrorizing both Jewish Americans and non-Jewish Americans alike.
Khalil is, of course, also not an America citizen, and he is a foreign student who got into the U.S. despite his open and obvious promotion of Hamas – this alone can get him deported – and has spent most of his “student career” at Columbia University organizing riots and other dangerous events at Columbia, which involve multiple crimes committing against American citizens, such as material support for Hamas, trespass, intimidation, assault and battery, etc. No criminal trial is necessary for him – for his deportation – and even if there were, there is loads of video evidence depicting Khalil committing these crimes. And this deportation – which also comes after Khalil graduated – has absolutely nothing to do with this foreigner’s “First Amendment rights,” and the U.S. has no obligation (and would be stupid) to allow Khalil to stay in the U.S. to become a citizen.
By the way, if this terror supporter and antisemite wants to see his kid, his wife can always move with Khalil back to the Middle East, where they will be surrounded by other such terror bigots who hate the U.S. and Israel.
I, for one, won’t miss them at all.
But, getting back to the Jewish American TDS sufferers, it may interest them to know that they are betraying Jewish philosophy by pushing their TDS argument. They are violating a central teaching by Hillel the Elder, who is venerated by both Jews and Christians alike as a wise man. (Someone very important to Christians this Easter may have been influenced by Hillel’s teachings.) One of Hillel’s sayings directly fits this situation and should educate these Jewish American TDS sufferers. This tripartite teaching of Hillel’ is: “If I am not for myself, who is for me? And if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?”
Here, the TDS sufferers are violating the very first part of this teaching!
And let me add to that – politically speaking, it is human nature that if a person does not stand up for themselves, other actors naturally feel scorn for that person and ignore that person’s interests while taking that person’s support or opposition for granted. Which gives said person absolutely no credibility or power in the political game.
Jewish Americans shouldn’t want to be in that position. Just like all Americans should not be want to be in the TDS position of fighting tooth and nail to “return” a likely MS-13 gang banger, likely wife-abusing, illegal alien from El Salvador to the U.S., where he is likely to commit newer crimes, just because the Trump administration has deported him to his homeland.
To sum up, paraphrasing the writing of another great Jewish American thinker, Adam Sandler, what these American Jewish “leaders” and TDS sufferers are arguing for is one of the most insanely idiotic things I’ve ever heard. At no point in their rambling, incoherent press release was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. All observers are dumber just for having read their press release. I award them no points in defending their own interests, and may God have mercy on their souls.
