The shot heard round the world

President Trump has enlisted Hillsdale College to commemorate important moments in American history leading up to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence next year. Read all about it at the site established by the White House here. Hillsdale President Larry Arnn introduces the series with the video below with a brief exposition of the Declaration.

Our friend Wilfred McClay holds the Victor Davis Hanson Chair in Classical History and Western Civilization at Hillsdale. He served for 11 years on the National Council on the Humanities, the advisory board for the National Endowment for the Humanities, and is a member of the U.S. Commission on the Semiquincentennial. He is the author of Land of Hope: An Invitation to the Great American Story.

In the video released this past Friday Bill celebrates the 250th anniversary of “The Shot Heard Round the World”: The Battles of Lexington and Concord. About half way through the video Bill addresses the “spiritual meaning of the events” and asks why we should remember.

Keep up with ensuing episodes in the series via President Arnn’s X feed here.
