Anti-monarchy group to hold ‘simultaneous’ rallies in just days in new attack on King | Royal | News

For the second year in a row, Republic Day will be held on Trafalgar Square, with simultaneous events happening in Cardiff and Edinburgh on May 10. The group, Republic, has staged many protests during King Charles and his family’s public appearances since it started the campaign against the monarchy.

In a press release, Republic spokesperson, Graham Smith, said: “Since the Coronation the campaign has been charging ahead, with more campaigns, more protests, more activism up and down the country.

“As well as opposing the monarchy we have a clear positive message, a vision of a fairer, more democratic country.”

The press release further stated: “Republic Day is a celebration of the country’s potential, and it will grow year on year, an annual reminder that the monarchy’s days are numbered.”

The group further claimed: “Support for the monarchy has fallen sharply in recent years, and interest in it has waned significantly. Charles doesn’t enjoy the deference his mother benefited from.

“By scrapping this rotten institution, we will give ourselves the opportunity to re-shape our politics and public life, and we will change the country for good.”

Republic Day will be in London on Trafalgar Square from midday to 3pm on Saturday May 10th. In Edinburgh, it is taking place on Calton Hill, and in Wales, outside Cardiff Castle in the capital city.
