If you were an aspiring law enforcement officer, would you have applied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation when the oleaginous Jim Comey was at the helm? Would you have considered working for Chris Wray, under whose direction you might be sent to raid an ex-president’s underwear drawer or investigate parents for caring about their children?
Would you have been proud to show up at the office or in the field every day knowing that your Attorney General was Merrick Garland, who seemed to care more about getting Trump and protecting Biden than stopping illegal alien crimes, gang mayhem, and drug smuggling?
I know I wouldn’t want to work for that kind of agency.
But that’s all changed now: Donald Trump is the president, Pam Bondi is the attorney general, and Kash Patel is leading the FBI along with his deputy director, Dan Bongino. Job seekers have taken notice, and apparently, they like what they see:
This past month, the #FBI received a surge of 5K+ special agent applications from those ready to uphold the U.S. Constitution & protect all Americans. It seems pretty clear from the numbers that some folks would be proud once again to work for the legendary bureau, whose reputation had been in tatters:
5,577 new applications were filed in March, after 2023 saw a monthly average of 2,797 applications, and 2024’s monthly average was 3,383. The most recent month that saw a number approximating March was April 2016, when 5,283 applications were filed, Fox News reported.
“Director Patel and Deputy Director Bongino have put a major emphasis on restoring confidence in federal law enforcement and boosting new agent recruiting,” FBI spokesman Ben Williamson told Fox News Digital. “These record early returns certainly suggest the new FBI is heading in the right direction.”

One thing that had been holding back recruiting in the FBI was its hyper-focus on DEI—which was the case at virtually every federal agency under Biden’s regime. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) blasted the effort in a May 2024 letter:
On Inauguration Day, President Biden issued his first Executive Order promulgating DEI programs within the whole of Executive Branch. A few months later, on April 21, 2021, you announced the hiring of the FBI’s first Chief Diversity Officer, Scott McMillon. From that time forward, we understand that the FBI has struggled with attracting enough qualified applicants from all desired target groups to sustain its mission. This is likely due to the FBI re-focusing its recruitment efforts on DEI statistics.
With Biden now presumably shuffling along a beach somewhere in Delaware, we no longer have that problem. Upon taking office, Donald Trump immediately signed an executive order dismantling divisive and unfair DEI efforts across federal agencies. That move, along with his appointments of quality, law-and-order-minded leaders at the head of our enforcement agencies, signals a new—highly improved—system of justice in this country.
