Campaigner ‘covered in bruises’ after marching through trans rally with Suffragette flag: ’Terrifying’

Campaigner Jean Hatchet has claimed she was “left with bruises” after attempting to march through a trans rally in Sheffield with a Suffragette flag.

Speaking on GB News, Hatchet described the incident as “terrifying” and alleged that both she and her partner were assaulted during the confrontation.

She told presenter Josh Howie that protesters were “violent men” who physically attacked her when she tried to walk through their demonstration with her flag.

“I’ve never been part of the two-tier policing debate – but that is what I saw yesterday,” Hatchet said.

She claimed: “I am covered in bruises, I was grabbed very hard. My partner has a headache after being hit very hard.”

According to Hatchet, protesters “assaulted my partner and me” when she attempted to “march one women’s rights flag through their space”.

She alleged that demonstrators had “already stolen virtually everything we had and assaulted a number of us”.

Hatchet claimed police officers failed to intervene when she reported being assaulted during the incident.

“I said I was walking my Suffragette flag through the marchers. I have the right to do it and I will not be cowered by these bullies,” she told GB News.

She alleged officers told her she couldn’t proceed because “it would be a breach of the peace”.

“I said this guy here is pushing his crotch into my sides and this guy is assaulting me. The police didn’t want to offend anybody,” Hatchet claimed.

“The violence was incredible and it became quite terrifying. The police tried to move me away,” Hatchet said.

She insisted her actions were peaceful, stating: “My flag wasn’t hateful. We weren’t being noisy, we were simply holding up our flag.”

Hatchet claimed she was merely exercising her right to display the Suffragette flag.

“They were very unclear then they confirmed they feared for me and the others I was with,” she added, suggesting police were concerned about her safety.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions following recent trans protests across the UK.

In London, thousands marched through central areas in an “emergency demonstration” against the Supreme Court’s ruling that only biological women are women.

During the Parliament Square rally, seven statues were vandalised, including those of Nelson Mandela and suffragist Millicent Fawcett.

The Metropolitan Police has launched a criminal investigation into the vandalism.

The Supreme Court decision has caused many public bodies to review their gender policies.
