Right now, China is backing itself into a corner in the tariff battle with President Donald Trump.
Trump has now levied more tariffs against them.
The Trump administration is hitting China with harsher tariffs after the country failed to meet the president’s 12:00 p.m. deadline on Tuesday to lift its retaliatory tariffs. This comes after President Donald Trump insisted that China wanted to “make a deal badly.”
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Tuesday that an additional 104% tariff on Chinese imports will be imposed on April 9. In Tuesday’s press briefing, Leavitt also reiterated Trump’s belief that China is looking to make a deal.
“He believes China has to make a deal with the United States. It was a mistake for China to retaliate,” Leavitt told reporters. “The president, when America is punched, he punches back harder, that’s why there will be 104% tariffs going into effect on China tonight at midnight.”

So far, the Chinese have been putting out juvenile propaganda memes against the U.S. This is one example: an AI-generated video that has gone viral.
Chinese memes on American re-industrialization rolling in. lol the music. 😂 pic.twitter.com/GZE2jHDgWZ

This is silly on so many levels and really tells on themselves, although they don’t get it.
First, they want to mock the “re-industrialization” effort of the U.S., painting Americans as fat and depressed having to do such work. The Chinese seem to be mocking the very labor that they employ, so they’re essentially making fun of themselves.
But it was the U.S. that was the leader in industrialization, that invented the assembly line. Meanwhile, you can see even in this clip how the Chinese take on sewing machines is ancient. Yes, there’s a big difference, we don’t have forced labor and people so unhappy they’re jumping out of buildings. We don’t have to have suicide nets as were reportedly employed at a complex in China several years ago.
This just shows what a limited view of “manufacturing” they have, too.
This also shows a failure to understand the American people if they think this will somehow help their cause. If anything, they may learn it’s not smart to try to kick the sleeping giant. What they really don’t want is Americans to come together to decide to buy American and not Chinese-made products, or that will just make their issues worse.
China hasn’t had to deal with anyone fighting back against their tactics. Now they have Trump finally standing up to it.
Meanwhile, Americans mocked the Chinese efforts.
What exactly is the point of this meme? That Americans can’t do manufacturing work? They seem to be doing just fine. The Chinese may have the worst propaganda in the world, they make the North Koreans look subtle. https://t.co/pYbTee0Kdu

We don’t need AI or “memes”
to expose China’s despicable forced labor system. https://t.co/j1C9gKfl85 https://t.co/vKfz4CLNZx— Laura Ingraham (@IngrahamAngle) April 8, 2025
