Duchess Sophie beams as she steps out for a day of royal engagements | Royal | News

The Duchess of Edinburgh looked on top form today (28 April) as she stepped out for a busy day of royal engagements. The Duchess, 60, has started her day in Aldershot, Hampshire, where she is officially opening the latest hub of The Lighthouse – a charity which helps and encourages people in need.

As she arrived, Sophie, who is Patron of the organisation, beamed as she was greeted outside the community centre. She first became involved with the charity in November 2022 and has given much of her time volunteering at The Lighthouse, last visiting their Woking site shortly before Christmas last year.

The charity, which has a handful of hubs across Surrey and Hampshire, helps a number of different people including those who experience loneliness.

The charity also helps individuals with mental or physical health challenges, people who have experienced violence in the home, households struggling with the cost of living crisis, refugees and anyone else in need.

Sophie’s visit to Aldershot today is the first of three royal engagements to be undertaken by the Duchess on Monday.

After spending time at The Lighthouse, the Duchess, who looks typically chic in a dark-coloured suit with a white shirt, will visit The Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor.

She will also attend a reception for the Women in Business Group of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at The Peninsula London.

It is another cause that holds a special place in her heart, as both she and Prince Edward have long played an active role in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme, which was originally launched by the late Prince Philip in 1956.
