We had a record day in the Channel: 700 illegal immigrants crossed today alone, surpassing the previous record set on Saturday of 656. That means approximately five new migrant hotels have been filled in just the past few days.
A study from the Netherlands suggests that each illegal migrant can cost taxpayers up to £400,000 over their lifetime. So today’s arrivals alone could cost the taxpayer around £280 million.
Anyone with common sense can see there’s no deterrent in place — and it’s going to seriously impact Britain.
Now, step forward: the Mental Health Foundation. They’ve released reports claiming that so-called asylum seekers should be allowed to work in Britain if they’ve been here for six months and the Home Office hasn’t processed their claim.

Before diving into the absurdity of that proposal, let’s take a look at some key figures behind the Mental Health Foundation.
The CEO is Mark Rowland, former chair of a group called Partners Relief, a charity dedicated to helping children in conflict zones and under oppression. His Twitter feed regularly shares content about how refugees are mentally affected by social unrest.
Then there’s Adrian Lance, also listed as a CEO. He previously worked for the EU — that well-known open-borders experiment — and for Save the Children. He also serves as treasurer of a group called Global Justice. According to their online profiles, that group is currently campaigning against a trade deal with President Trump and pushing for greater opportunities for people in the Global South.
So this charity is advocating for so-called asylum seekers to be allowed to work in any job if the Home Office hasn’t processed their claim within six months. But what Britain really needs is a deterrent — not yet another massive incentive.
Any asylum seeker would be able to stretch out their stay for at least six months. They could file repeated appeals, claim to be gay, or pretend to convert to Christianity — like acid attacker Abdul Azadi, who nevertheless had a Muslim funeral. Or they could claim association with a foreign terror group, like the Nigerian woman whose application was rejected seven times but approved on the eighth. If at first you don’t succeed… we all know the rest, don’t we?
The only potential benefit of allowing them to work after six months is that we might finally discover how few are actually the doctors and engineers we always hear about. Sadly, that “experiment” would likely come with a significant human cost.
Channel crossings are up roughly 46% year on year. Why? Because illegal immigrants know that our current Home Secretary is someone who proudly shares hashtags like #RefugeesWelcome.
They know our Prime Minister is essentially an over-promoted human rights lawyer.
They know that here in Britain, they receive free housing, free food, free phones, free healthcare, free education — even free driving lessons in parts of Oxfordshire.
Patrick said that “everyone thinks we are a soft touch”
GETTY
Everyone thinks we’re a soft touch — just like the Albanian man featured on a Channel 4 show who said: “England has people that are caring. That’s why England will give you a chance.”
That was on a programme called 24 Hours in Police Custody, which featured a group of Albanian drug dealers who had broken out of an immigration detention centre. But yes, we’ll give you a chance, mate.
If Labour decides to act on this idea and allow so-called asylum seekers to work after six months, they’ll start families here, put down roots — and they’ll never leave.
And I think that would be the end of Britain as we know it.
