President Trump gave a fiery speech at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) headquarters Friday afternoon, and before he got to new business, he had some old business to discuss. One topic on his mind was the Biden DOJ’s overtly politicized handling of the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case and, subsequently, the left’s vile treatment of Judge Aileen Cannon of the Southern District of Florida, who oversaw the case.
As RedState readers know, Judge Cannon initially wanted to appoint a “special master” to review the documents seized during the raid on Mar-a-Lago, but a higher court overruled her decision and paved the way for the weaponized Biden DOJ to take over the case. Cannon ultimately prevailed and ended up dismissing the case in July of 2025, just days after a would-be assassin shot at President Trump in Butler, PA.

The president clearly felt for Judge Cannon, who was the subject of fierce backlash from the legacy media and hard-left activists for merely doing her job, taking her detractors to task for their shameful behavior.
“They were saying she was slow, she wasn’t smart, she was totally biased. She loved Trump. I didn’t know her other than I saw her the couple of days that I was in court, and I thought her decorum was amazing,” Trump said.
“Actually, she was brilliant, she moved quickly. She was the absolute model of what a judge should be, and she was strong and tough,” he added.
And what about the case itself, which saw Trump embroiled in a two-year battle against the Biden DOJ—which conveniently overlooked the blatant mishandling of classified documents by Biden himself—as part of the left’s attempt to prevent him from once again becoming president? Trump hilariously boiled it down to just one word:
It’s this kind of plain talk that resonates with American voters, who have grown tired of meaningless DC-speak. And who can’t relate to man who knows he’s going to catch it from the wife for going back on a lighthearted promise?
The One Moment From the Trump DOJ Presser That Is Going to Drive Democrats Bananas
On a somewhat curious note, I apparently made the wrong decision to watch Trump’s DOJ speech on C-SPAN instead of the White House’s livestream. When the president started talking about Judge Cannon and the Mar-a-Lago documents case, C-SPAN abruptly stopped its coverage and put up a message that the event had ended. This is Trump we’re talking about—he was only getting started at that point. The message remained up for several minutes, then the coverage resumed with the president already onto a different topic.
I don’t tend to be a conspiracy theorist (much), but it’s very curious that C-SPAN somehow managed to let the drivel of Democratic Women’s Conference presser be shown in its entirety, but couldn’t manage the heavy lift of showing President Trump’s speech in its entirety. My guess? The location of the speech—the DOJ’s DC headquarters (and in front of the new sheriffs in town)—is sending shivers down the spines of longtime Swamp-dwellers.
