JFK Assassination Files Released – RedState

On Monday, President Donald Trump made a big announcement at the Kennedy Center – that the full, unredacted files related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy would be released Tuesday. He has now kept that promise, and the files have been posted to the National Archives website.

Trump estimated that the total number of pages in the new release is over 80,000, and said that the government will not be providing any type of executive summary. He told reporters:

So, we’re at the Kennedy Center. It needs a lot of work. We’re going to fix it, make it beautiful. It’s a very big part of the fabric of DC and the capital. We’re bringing back the capital, we’re bringing back the country.

But, while we’re here, I thought it’d be appropriate — we are, tomorrow, announcing and giving all of the Kennedy files. People have been waiting decades for this, and I’ve instructed my people that are responsible, lots of different people, and put together by Tulsi Gabbard — and that’s going to be tomorrow.

We’ve got a tremendous amount of paper — you’ve got a lot of reading [to do]. I don’t believe we’re going to retract anything. I said, “Just don’t redact. You can’t redact.”

During his remarks at the Kennedy Center, President Trump revealed that he had not read all of the files himself, but was well aware of the keen interest of the American public, who have spent decades wondering what, if anything, the government has been hiding about the Kennedy assassination.

As my colleague Ward Clark covered, in February, the FBI “found” 2,400 new records and sent them over to the National Archives for declassification to comply with Trump’s Executive Order.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has long maintained that the CIA was deeply involved in his uncle’s assassination, and has been advocating for the declassification and release of the files for years.

Obviously, it is going to take time to review the declassified files to see what additional information might be available, and there’s no guarantee there will be any big revelations. As Ward wrote:

“It’s probably unrealistic to expect any huge revelations from these documents. Many of them are likely to be copies of documents that have already been released. Others may prove to be not directly related to the assassination. If there were any documents in any of these archives that contained information of any conspiracy, any additional gunmen on the famous grassy knoll or elsewhere, they would have likely been removed many years ago by people who had something to gain from keeping the secret — or their existence would have been blown by someone who wanted to become rich and famous by blowing open the greatest political conspiracy in the history of the republic.”
