Several judges had a tough week—a New Mexico jurist was arrested for having an alleged Tren de Aragua illegal alien gangbanger residing on his property, while Wisconsin Judge Hannah Dugan was nabbed for helping a violent illegal escape ICE.
Now a colleague of Dugan is doubling down on defiance and threatening to shutter her courtroom in protest of Dugan’s arrest.
Judge Monica Isham made the announcement in an email to judges across the state on Saturday. Her email, titled “Guidance Requested or I Refuse to Hold Court,” made clear she had no intention of working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“If there is no guidance for us and no support for us, I will refuse to hold court in Branch 2 in Sawyer County. I will not put myself or my staff who may feel compelled to help me or my community in harms way,” Isham wrote, according to a copy of the email obtained by Wisconsin Right Now.

“If this costs me my job or gets me arrested then at least I know I did the right thing,” Isham added.

Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon took notice, saying on social media that the threat was “problematic.”
As RedState’s Bonchie reported, ICE agents were waiting outside Dugan’s courtroom Friday to apprehend an illegal alien after his court date—but Dugan helped shield him and escape from the courthouse. These are then actions that Judge Isham thinks are appropriate to defend.
Federal agents from ICE, FBI, CBP and DEA attempted to arrest the undocumented male – Mexican national Eduardo Flores-Ruiz – following his scheduled criminal court appearance before Dugan on April 18 to face three misdemeanor battery charges for allegedly beating two people.
Dugan demanded that the officers proceed to the chief judge’s office and – after his hearing ended – escorted Flores-Ruiz and his attorney out a restricted jury door, bypassing the public area where agents were waiting in order to help him avoid arrest, per the complaint.
My guess is that both Dugan and Isham are soon going to have very good reasons to reconsider their actions. They will either be doing so while looking for new jobs or staring out from behind bars, if the Trump Department of Justice has anything to do with it.
