Liberalism as Mental Illness | Power Line

That liberalism is a kind of mental illness is of course a familiar theme, bolstered by empirical data showing that liberals are, indeed, disproportionately troubled if not outright crazy. What follows is a story that we could write about several times a day, so let it stand for many more.

If this particular story is notable, it is because the perp–the anti-Tesla vandal–is a mental health professional:

The Brooklyn woman accused of leaving a brick scrawled with a swastika and the word “Nazi” on a parked Tesla is a super-woke family therapist who was involved in criminal justice diversion programs — and blamed Elon Musk for her heinous actions as she was taken into custody.
***
[Natasha] Cohen, 46, has a private practice, working with children, adolescents and their families for more than two decades.

Just the sort of person we want counseling troubled teenagers. Someone sensible, well-balanced, mature. And above all, not delusional:

“Every time I see those cars, I see Elon Musk saluting the country as a Nazi,” Cohen told police at the time of her April 12 arrest, according to a copy of the criminal complaint….

So she fell for that idiotic left-wing trope, and apparently hasn’t seen the countless photos of pretty much every person in public life raising his or her right arm in the air. Most recently, from The Week In Pictures, Wisconsin’s newly-elected left-wing Supreme Court justice:

That is what happens when you live in the isolated world of liberal media. More:

“I made a mistake because I’m basically living in terror every day that the country is turning into Nazi Germany,” Cohen continued, according to cops.

This is something that liberals, including Democratic Party politicians, say every day. And it is completely bonkers. Let’s do the math:

Nazi Germany: Murdered 6 million Jews.
Trump administration: Hasn’t murdered anyone. And Donald Trump has a Jewish daughter and grandchildren, and has been hailed by Israeli leaders as the best friend that country has ever had in the White House.

Nazi Germany: Invaded Czechoslovakia, Poland, Belgium, France, Norway, Russia, Libya, Algeria, Yugoslavia, Greece, Denmark, and no doubt more that don’t come to mind.
Trump administration: Hasn’t invaded anyone, is trying to broker peace in Ukraine.

Nazi Germany: Radically increased the size of government and raised taxes.
Trump administration: Is trying to reduce the scope of government and cut taxes.

Nazi Germany: Forbade all anti-government speech.
Trump administration: Has reversed the anti-free speech policies of the Biden administration, and is attacked by more anti-government speech than, likely, any administration in world history.

Nazi Germany: Murdered homosexuals.
Trump administration: Has gay cabinet members and other high officials.

The Trump administration is the ultimate anti-Nazi regime. And not in subtle ways, but in the most obvious ways possible: no invasions, no gas chambers. You really need to be mentally ill to draw any analogy between the two.

“I’m truly terrified because Elon was unelected and they’re deporting migrants without a trial.”

More idiotic left-wing tropes. Elon is unelected? Right, like every member of the Executive Branch except the President and Vice President. That is totally normal. What was not normal was the Biden administration, where people who were not elected were carrying out the duties of the president because he was senile.

And sorry, buttercup: Given that Joe Biden committed the worst violation of the rule of law in American history by enticing 10 million or more illegals into the country, they aren’t all going to get “trials.” There are around 700 immigration judges, and around 250 federal work days. So, if each immigration judge handles two “trials” per day, that is 350,000 per year. At that rate, it would take 29 years to deport the ones Joe Biden invited in, not to mention those who were here already. Sorry to say, Natasha, that just isn’t going to happen.

The American left is a weird zone where you can say anything, no matter how stupid or downright insane, and you can count on it being applauded by pretty much everyone you know. That is what is truly extraordinary: not that people like Natasha Cohen exist, but that close to half of our population is so ignorant and so unmoored from reality that they think that not only her absurd musings, but also her criminal conduct, make some kind of sense.
