I think we all can admit that Donald Trump is a bit of a lightning rod and a controversial figure, even long before he got involved in politics and more so since. He says and does things that make people scratch their heads.
There’s a whole list in just his second term so far that make me stop and think, “Wait a minute, what is the end game here?” I freely admit this on these very pages and also on my radio show. Tariffs are one of those things I’ve questioned.
Opinion: Canadian Prime Minister Carney Responds to American Tariffs From Trump, and So It Begins
Prime Minister Carney is allegedly meeting with Canadian ministers today to discuss this, but did offer a brief response to the president’s announcement yesterday at the White House HERE:
Canada will be exempt from the sweeping reciprocal tariffs U.S. President Donald Trump is implementing on most other countries, though 25 per cent tariffs on some Canadian goods remain in place, and 25 per cent tariffs on all foreign-made automobiles are coming into effect as of midnight.
Prime Minister Mark Carney — who put his election campaign on pause to meet with his Canada-U.S. Relations Council and cabinet to craft a response to the tariffs — told reporters on Parliament Hill the federal government will “act with purpose and with force” during this crisis.
Trump laid out the details of his long-anticipated reciprocal-tariff regime in the White House Rose Garden on Tuesday afternoon.
So, just to be clear, I read several people on Wednesday saying that Canada had already rolled over after the Trump announcement and was going to reduce tariffs to zero, to try to avoid American reciprocation. Mark Carney is the leader of the country, at least until the end of the month when the nationwide election for Parliament happens. What some people read and misunderstood was Ontario Premier Doug Ford saying he was hoping this could be avoided after a conversation Ford had on Wednesday morning with Carney, and would be willing to lower charges in the province of Ontario to zero.
People seem to forget during the heat of battle and verbal volleys that get thrown that having Canada as a northern neighbor has benefited the United States in terms of not worrying about a foreign invasion. This is mostly because Canada doesn’t have a strong military, and they know the United States would step in if anything happened.
Plus, we have benefited from hockey and good beer.
So I know that with the Donald Trump infallible crowd, I’m not going to get the first invite to the party, which is fine. I have an inherent distrust of anyone who holds any sort of political power and feel that they need to be questioned at all times. I thank the third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, for displaying this unique quality and distrust of even someone such as himself. Who then navigated a very political and, I believe, illegal move with the Louisiana Purchase.
That story is for another time, though.
Donald Trump IS a much better choice than either of the verbal wreck of a candidate Democrats could have run against him, and I do appreciate the bull-in-a-china-shop mentality that he has. And, when stupid criticism arises, I feel I need to make sure to call it out for exactly what it is and mock those who are dumb enough to utter it as though it’s sharp and reasoned.
Truly, this is one of the instances where I believe the internet has made people dumber.
Below is a tweet I sent out earlier today, so you can see the picture that was criticized, and below that is linked to the story that had people who can barely breathe without their mouths being open commenting.
Trump gets slammed by dufuses for this photo at Pope Franks’ funeral #Dopes https://t.co/flsqzmkyOA

The story is HERE.
But as the couple then joined the rows of other world leaders dressed in dark attire, people said the US President stuck out like a sore thumb due to his clothing.
Although every other mourner appeared to be sporting black in line with Catholic customs, as it is seen as a sign of respect, Trump opted to wear a blue suit.
His colour pallette has managed to attract attention for all the wrong reasons, as a host of people tuning into the live coverage of Pope Francis’ funeral have taken to social media to accuse him of having ‘no class’.
One person wrote in a post on X: “Any reason why Donald Trump is in a blue suit and not wearing traditional black for a funeral?”
Another said: “I see that Trump’s wearing a blue suit to the Pope’s funeral so that he stands out. T**ser!”
A third commented: “Watching the funeral on BBC News. Trump is in a blue suit when everyone else is in black. No class.”
So let me get this right, hipster on Twitter.
No one is going to see Donald Trump in a crowd of people, and he knew this, so he wore a blue suit to stand out. That’s the argument that you’re going to go with today? One of the most recognizable faces and hairstyles that the entire world that is sees multiple times a day by the American and the world press is going to blend into a crowd, and he knows this if he wears a black suit.
I can just see these mental midgets sitting at a Starbucks, patting themselves on the back for paying seven or eight bucks for a “value” product and admiring how witty they are for saying Donald Trump has no class for wearing a suit to a funeral.
I still respect the fact that Elon Musk paid a fortune for Twitter and that he allows these doofuses to speak freely. Yet some days I kind of wish you had kept the money, although the previous structure would allow these dip wads to thrive.
Some days you just can’t win.
