A paedophile flew thousands of miles to meet a 15-year-old girl he met online. Jacob Ewing, 44 flew from the United States to Wales after becoming obsessed with his victim who he controlled over the internet.
Ewing began speaking to the girl online where he pressured her into carrying out sexual acts on film, as well as telling her what to wear and eat – he also made her livestream herself sleeping. The pair met on a chat site called Emerald where Ewing told the victim he was a paedophile hunter and a Christian, Newport Crown Court heard. He made the girl give him her Snapchat details where the exchange continued before turning to video calls.
After making her keep the video running all night, the paedophile told her he masturbated while she slept. Prosecutor Ieuan Bennett said the “power balance” in the relationship switched and he began shouting and screaming at the victim. The conversations quickly became sexual and controlling over what the girl wore. He demanded she take her phone everywhere while it was connected to a live stream, so that he could see what she was doing.
The victim tried to end the relationship but insisted he made her feel guilty. Ewing had shown her a firearm on one occasion, claiming he had harmed his mother because the victim “upset him”.
After a few weeks of no contact, he got back in touch with the victim and said he had been in prison.
After a while, the victim later realised Ewing tattooed her initials on his chest and became “obsessed” with her. Whenever the paedophile asked the girl to take off her clothes, he became angry if she refused.
The victim continued to meet his demands after feeling pressured – he would use sex toys on himself and asked her to buy one too, which the victim found disturbing.
The girl became frequently distressed and upset, fearing that images of her engaging in sexual activity had been recorded and potentially shared.
Ewing eventually said he was going to travel to Wales to meet her, having waited until she turned 16 years old, and spoke about marriage and children. The paedophile flew to Cardiff Airport last year, yet was greeted by UK Border Force after receiving intelligence from US police.
He was found in possession of folding pen knives, a sheathed knife, and a wooden cosh.
Multiple devices were also seized which were examined and found the defendant in possession of category A, B and C images, the most extreme of which depicted a baby being raped by an adult man.
Ewing pleaded guilty to six counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two counts of attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act, three counts of possessing indecent photographs of a child, possessing an article with a blade or point in a public place, and possession of an offensive weapon.
He was sentenced to a total of 92 months imprisonment, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining order for 10 years each and made subject to sex offender notification requirements indefinitely.
