Prince William releases rare interview ahead of Villa match | Royal | News

Prince William gave a lengthy interview minutes before his favourite football team, Aston Villa, faced PSG in a key Champions League quarter-final match. The Prince of Wales, who publicly declared his love for Villa several years ago, spoke to TNT Sport ahead of the match.

Taking to X, fans appeared impressed by the royal’s knowledge, with one fan commenting, “Very impressive knowledge! Also he comes across as a really nice guy!”

Another commented that William “knew his stuff”, whilst another fan wrote, “he’s actually quite good [to be fair] [cry-laughing face].”

A fourth fan, also impressed, commented: “He spoke exceptionally well! What a lad.”

Agreeing with fellow fans, one fan even jokingly commented that they should have William commentating every week. They shared, “Get the guy commentating each week [cry-laughing face].”

During the interview, William was reminded that he was born shortly after the Aston Villa “victory in Rotterdam”. He was then asked if that could be a “good omen”.

To which he added, “Well, I hope so. We’ll see. I’m wearing all my lucky clothes and bits and pieces and done on my routine. So I’m hoping that it’s going to bring some luck tonight.”

Expressing his wide knowledge of one of his favourite sports, William was asked what he “wants out of this first leg”.

He replied, “I think we all saw the Liverpool game and PSG’s intensity. I mean, in the first leg, they were unbelievable.

“They gave a lot of pressure. They pressed very high. And so I think for Unai [Emery] tonight and the team, it’s about managing that press. Unai likes it when their teams come onto them, they quite like high press. But obviously there’s a limit and, you know, can we get round the press? Can we? Can we beat it? So I’m thinking long ball a bit. I’m thinking also how they’re going to get around the high press. So it’s going to be a challenging night, and I’m looking forward to the tactics Unai’s going to have to employ.”

William also revealed that he had bought along his son, 11-year-old Prince George, to the match this evening.
