Retvrn

The futurist George Friedman appeared on Tucker Carlson’s podcast yesterday, streaming here on Twitter (X). The interview runs for 1 hour and 23 minutes.

I don’t agree with all of it, but Friedman develops a number of themes I’ve been pondering for the past few months.

At 6:57 he mentions the coming of a new “golden age.” At 13:05 he talks about the end of one era and the beginning of the next, in what run as roughly 50-year cycles. We are in the midst of an institutional and societal crisis which manifests as “chaos.”

As I have said for years, Trump is a symptom, not the cause of the crisis. At 20:12, Friedman speaks about his book The Storm Before the Calm: America’s Discord, the Coming Crisis of the 2020s, and the Triumph Beyond (2020).

Friedman, aged 76, has been around for a while and has seen it all. He’s remarkably optimistic about the future.
