I’ve written so much about Ilhan Omar over the years I have forgotten a lot. Yesterday I came across the February post I had written when RealClearInvestigations posted Martin Gould’s Daily Mail story “Ilhan Omar DID marry her brother and said she would ‘do what she had to do to get him ‘papers’ to keep him in U.S.,’ reveals Somali community leader.” I met with Gould when he visited Minneapolis to report on Omar for the Daily Mail and wrote about his linked story here on Power Line on the day it was published.
The “Somali community leader” to whom Gould referred was Abdu Nur. Coincidentally, Abdi’s Facebook post on the Feeding Our Future fraud was introduced into evidence in the trial that concluded with guilty verdicts last week. I quoted it in my Free Beacon column yesterday. I also noted in the column how defendant Salim Said sought to introduce a video of Omar at his Safari Restaurant in his defense at trial.
In February I recalled that Abdi was the first Somali source to speak with me after I wrote about Ilhan Omar in my “Her back pages” post of August 2016. I protected Abdi’s identity as an anonymous source whom I promised confidentiality as I met with him frequently over the next three-and-a-half-years. However, I confirmed everything he had told me with other sources and other researchers including, preeminently, Preya Samsundar and David Steinberg.
In July 2019 a bona fide historian took a look at the evidence that had accumulated about Ilhan Omar’s marriage to her brother. I am referring to Dominic Green, a distinguished member of the Royal Historical Society. Dominic was editor of the American edition of the Spectator at the time and wrote the Omar column for the Spectator under the pseudonymous Spectator handle Cockburn. I know Dominic wrote the Cockburn column on Omar because he called me while he was working on it.
The Daily Mail republished Dominic’s 2019 column under the headline “‘I am legally married to one and culturally to another’: How Ilhan Omar desperately tried to shut down accusations of bigamy amid claims she was briefly married to her BROTHER to ‘commit immigration fraud’ while she was still with her current husband.” It is still worth reading.
Abdi has been a widely followed reporter for the Somali community on Facebook. After telling Gould the Omar saga in February 2020, Abdi went to ground. On February 26, 2020, Abdi posted the following message on Facebook. At that time he asked me to share it with Power Line readers. As translated by a mutual Somali friend, this is what he had to say:
My name is Abdihakim Osman Nur and I live in Minneapolis Minnesota. I am an American citizen. I am the person who spoke to the media and said that Ilhan Omar married her brother and made legal papers for him to stay in America. I confirmed that the marriage was fraudulent and that I was personally aware since I was a close friend and neighbor to both Ahmed Hirsi and Ilhan Omar. It is also an open secret in the Minnesota Somali community but everyone is afraid of problems from supporters of Ilhan Omar, at least one of whom has a felony criminal record.
This issue started in August of 2016 and the first media person whom I spoke to was Scott Johnson, who writes for Power Line. I shared his posts on my Facebook [page] and I was met with vicious online harassment and threats including insulting me for being in a wheelchair and insults to my person as a disabled man. They [i.e., Abdi’s Somali harassers] caricatured me as wearing diapers. I finally decided to put them on all the things that they were doing in suppressing the information through intimidation and threats and so I told the writer of Daily Mail to put it on the record.
Since that day I have received veiled threats about my safety, insults online and threats of a set-up in which to have me locked up. I have had fake complaints to try and shut my Facebook [page] down. They have also told a media personality on YouTube to threaten me and she did so live on a YouTube video.
I would like to inform the public and the government of the USA. If anything were to happen to me and my safety that Ilhan Omar and her team will be responsible. I also ask for the support of the American people in case I’m set up or something happens to me because I have talked.
Thanks for your help and understanding.

Ilhan Omar posted the the response below to Gould’s 2020 story on the day of publication. I thought she was panicking. Abdi had been telling me the same story for over three years. Preya Samsundar and David Steinberg had also confirmed the story via social media several times over. Omar is apparently untouchable, but she is a world-class faker and fraud.
The same people who chastise the progressive movement regularly traffic in anti-Muslim smears and hate speech against me and those I represent.
It’s almost as if they don’t genuinely care about online harassment.
