‘Star Wars’ TV Series Creator Defends Attempted Sexual Assault Scene – RedState

Creator of the “Star Wars” TV series “Andor,” Tony Gilroy is claiming “we are all the product of rape” in his bizarre defense for including an sexual assault scene in the Disney+ series.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy talked about the sexual assault in the TV-14 series, about an attempted rape of a Rebel fugitive character, Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), by an Imperial officer. It takes place in the third episode of the second season when the officer makes several attempts physically on Bix, resulting in a violent struggle between the two. Bix manages to ward off her attacker and ended up screaming, “He tried to rape me!”

The creator said that attempted rape needed to be part of telling a story that involves war.

“I get one shot to tell everything I know — or can discover, or that I’ve learned — about revolution, about battles, with as many incidents and as many colors as I can get in there, without having [the story] tip over,” Gilroy said.

“I mean, let’s be honest, man: The history of civilization, there’s a huge arterial component of it that’s rape,” he added. “All of us who are here — we are all the product of rape. I mean armies and power throughout history [have committed rape].”

“So, to not touch on it, in some way … It just was organic and it felt right, coming about as a power trip for this guy,” the series’ creator continued. “I was really trying to make a path for Bix that would ultimately lead to clarity — but a difficult path to get back to clarity.”

And when asked if he had gotten any pushback from the studio about the attempted sexual assault scene’s inclusion, Gilroy said he hadn’t.

“No one ever, ever said anything about it, ever,” Gilroy said. “But I mean, we have limits on what we can do. We are very aware of what we can do sexually and violence wise. Those limits are made very clear.”

However, social media users appear to feel differently, with many slamming the “filth” on the Disney+ show.

“SPOILERS ‘Andor’ Disney ‘Star Wars’ has finally sunk as low as it can; attempted r*pe in a CHILDREN’S IP?!” one person wrote. “What is the matter with you?! Who greenlit this?!”

The post continued: “Get this filth off your streaming service directed at CHILDREN & fire everyone involved in this decision, top to bottom.”

Another person wrote, “I don’t mind having mature #StarWars but I’m not ok with it going so far as depicting an attempted rape. Or saying the word rape.’ I’m actually quite disgusted with the #Andor series right now.”

While a third person continued, “‘Andor’ season 2 sucks, so far. The first three episodes have an illegal immigrant story. The third episode is the worse! Rape scene with cuts to a bizarre dance scene with unrelated characters. More Disney nonsense.”

Every time Disney has gone woke with its “Star Wars” shows it has backfired on them, as previously noted. The creator of the Sith-driven “Star Wars” series, “Acolyte”, Leslye Headland previously promised the series would be infused with LGBTQ themes.

No surprise, it was canceled after one season.
