That’s why the car experts at Garage.co.uk crunched the data and revealed the top five best family road trips in the UK.
These ultimate road trip spots were highlighted as having the perfect balance of fun, accessibility and kid-friendly stops – with a 500-mile trail deemed the ultimate when it comes to breathtaking views.
Coming top was Scotland’s answer to Route 66. The North Coast 500 is a jaw-dropping 500-mile loop that’s the biggest in Scotland and starts and ends in Inverness.
The rundown said of the route: “It passes rugged cliffs, white sand beaches, and quaint Highland villages.
“Great for kids who love castles, wildlife spotting, and the occasional ice cream on the beach.”
The trip brings together the very best the Highlands has to offer including its glistening beaches, stunning rolling countryside and haunting castles.
One Tripadvisor review said: “Truly, the vistas don’t even look real here. With a bit of luck, you’ll have good weather.
“It does sound cliche, but around every bend there was some new and amazing landscape.”
Research from Garage.co.uk also revealed the trip includes 12 stops along the way, a total of seven service stations and recommended between five and seven days to complete it.
Another review on Tripadvisor described the North Coast 500 as truly being “The Ultimate Road Trip!” adding that he’s “driven many, many places in my 67 years and this was unquestionably the most impressive and enjoyable.”
With another adding that it was “an amazing bucket list trip” however it does require “lots of planning”.
