2028 ElectionFeaturedGavin Newsom

The race for 2028 | Power Line

Two Democratic governors are taking opposing approaches to their 2028 runs for the Presidency. California Gov. Gavin Newsom appeared on Bill Maher’s HBO show, Real Time, on Friday night to defend his approach of investigating the appeal of the other side.

The Hill newspaper reported,

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) took a swing at his own party Friday evening, claiming Democrats have become too “toxic” and “judgmental.”

In that same TV appearance, Newsom is quoted as saying,

“I mean, this idea that we can’t even have a conversation with the other side … or the notion we just have to continue to talk to ourselves or win the same damn echo chamber, these guys are crushing us,” he continued, referencing Republicans who have seen better numbers in recent elections.

“The Democratic brand is toxic right now,” the governor said, adding later that “we talk down to people. We talk past people.”

To be clear, the two-term California governor does not hold a single political (or any other kind of) principle. He does possess a keen interest in winning the 2028 Presidential election. To that end, he is “conversing” with the other side (on his new podcast) to learn the source of their appeal in the hopes of cleaving off a portion of the electorate to reach 270 electoral votes.

Among the first five full episodes of his new podcast, he has interviewed Charlie Kirk (1), Michael Savage (2), Steve Bannon (3), and Tim Walz (5). Newsom is playing the long game.

In contrast, Minnesota Gov., Tim Walz, a former V.P. nominee and Newsom podcast guest, has zero interest in what the other side is thinking. Walz is continuing his multi-state “town hall” tour to hand-picked audiences, honing his applause lines for the benefit of what the far-left faction of his party most wants to hear. He’s conspicuously not interviewing Trump confidants, instead, Walz is picking fights with them.

As John pointed out yesterday, Walz has a nearer-term objective in mind,

But [Walz] knows his party’s base: a vicious, mean-spirited jerk may be exactly what Democrats are looking for in 2028. Those Democrats who vote in primaries, anyway; the most left-wing Democrats.

Maybe his ambition will prove delusional, but you heard it here first: Tim Walz is running for president in 2028.

His apparent goal is to get the Democratic nomination first, and worry about broadening his appeal, if any, later on.

Meanwhile, NBC News is reporting that Pres. Trump himself is “not joking” about a run for a third term in 2028.

Let the games begin! After all, it will be an Olympic year in America in 2028.
