I call Rep. Al Green “the bad Al Green” to distinguish him from the soul singer Al Green — the great Al Green. The one should never under any circumstances be confused with the other. The great Al Green is the one to whom Marc Cohn paid tribute in “Walking In Memphis” — “Reverend Green be glad to see you / When you haven’t got a prayer…”
The bad Al Green got himself thrown out of President Trump’s State of the Union Address last night. To borrow a thought from the great Al Green, he’s “so tired of being alone,” or wanted to be seen that way. But he’s never alone. He’s only one clown among the Democratic Party’s cast of congressional clowns. If a Republican had performed like the bad Al Green at an Obama State of the Union, it would have been presented as a crime against humanity.
Mark Penn is the former Clinton pollster and current chief executive officer of of the Stagwell Group as well as chairman of the Harris Poll. My impression is that he is a decent man. His reaction on X to last night’s SOTU isn’t bad.
