Trump’s 7-word exchange with Melania during Pope funeral as First Lady gives ‘side eye’ | World | News

Donald Trump was caught on camera in a quick exchange with his wife Melania in the midst of the solemn funeral of Pope Francis. The US President and the First Lady travelled to the Vatican on Friday to attend the historic event.

During the two-hour service, held in St Peter’s Square in the enclave surrounded by the Italian territory, Mr Trump was caught briefly speaking with the First Lady. While the congregation was standing up nearly one hour into the service, the US President got closer to Melania. According to lip reading expert Nicola Hickling from Lip Reader Limited, the US President said seven words.

Speaking on behalf of Oddspedia, she told the Express she believed Mr Trump said: “I’ll go over and speak to him.”

The lip reading expert added how Melania appeared to give “him the side eye” but did not acknowledge him.

It is not clear who Mr Trump was seemingly referring to. This comes in light of reports that Mr Trump held a brief meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ahead of the funeral, yet no further details on the discussion have been released. It is believed that the pair are set to meet again at the end of the service.

Their meeting marked the first time since February that Mr Zelensky and Mr Trump have seen each other. In late February, the Ukrainian leader travelled to the White House to sign a minerals deal with the US yet talks turned south when stern words were exchanged.

The Vatican said 130 delegations were confirmed to be attending the funeral, including 50 heads of state and 10 reigning sovereigns. Prince William and Prime Minister Keir Starmer are among the leaders in Rome, alongside his wife, Lady Victoria and the Foreign Secretary, David Lammy.
