‘Unfortunately the UK has become a playground for criminals’

Do you feel more or less safe in Britain than you did a few years ago? The latest crime stats are out—and the UK, well, unfortunately, it’s becoming a playground for criminals.

Crime rose a staggering 14 per cent in the year ending December 2024. Do you remember things like this?

There were just under 55,000 incidents involving a knife in the year to December 2024. That’s up two per cent. But what about this?

Pickpocketing is up 50 per cent. It’s actually at the highest level since records began. Have you seen anything like this in your local shop? Because I certainly have.

Theft is up 13 per cent. That’s 2.9 million theft incidents in just one year. Shoplifting is up too. In fact, there were half a million recorded offences—that’s a 20 per cent increase. Has anything like this happened near you?

Thirty-six per cent of people experienced or witnessed anti-social behaviour over the year. Thirty-six per cent of the population of England and Wales. That’s mad.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

The sexual assault statistics are grim. One million people were sexually assaulted. Now, statistically speaking, in Britain the majority of perpetrators are probably going to be white.

However, we are importing a lot of this problem. Between 2021 and 2023, foreign nationals were 71 per cent more likely to commit sex crimes in Britain.

In fact, this issue has become so significant that a group called the Women’s Safety Initiative has just been launched to highlight the dangers of mass, uncontrolled immigration when it comes to the safety of women and girls in Britain.

That group shouldn’t have to exist, should it? And yet it does—which is a damning indictment in itself.

Meanwhile, there’s been another 50 per cent rise in phone snatchings, reaching the highest level ever. Fraud is up 33 per cent, with 54,587 incidents recorded involving a sharp increase in financial scams.

The Annual Fraud Indicator now estimates that we lose £219billion to fraud every year.

Just to put that in context: in 2023–2024, the Department of Health and Social Care spent £188.5bn on health services. Think about that.

We’re losing more to fraud than we spend on the entire NHS. That’s insane—absolutely insane. You could fund the NHS nearly twice over with that.

And when we do lock people up, sometimes we can’t even keep them there.

While we were reporting, we saw a man appear on top of a fence—topped with barbed wire. He jumped down to where a black vehicle was waiting, the car door already open.

We were doing a report on Shabana Mahmood, the Justice Minister, letting people out of prison early… and then a guy literally just hopped the fence. Apparently, he’s still on the loose.

Anyway—we’re now a low-trust, high-crime society. The question, of course, is: What do we do about it?
