The US stock markets have already surged within minutes of Donald Trump‘s shock announcement that he will pause American tariffs for every country except China. The world has been plunged into economic chaos after the president slapped exorbitant charges on nations importing goods to his country from across the world. But within nine minutes of his announcement, the US NASDAQ shot up from 17,356.27 to 18,597.50 – a rise of 7.15%.
Reacting to the news, journalist Andrew Neil said markets would “no doubt be relieved” that Mr Trump had backed down in the face of worldwide economic turmoil. But he said: “All it does is underline the reckless uncertainty of Trump’s bull-in-a-china-shop approach to trade policy. No sane business would invest in the current climate.”
