One of the Trump administration’s genius moves is sending violent, illegal immigrant gang members to El Salvador for incarceration, under conditions much harsher than they would face in our country. Deporting the 10 million or more illegals who were enticed to break our laws by the Biden administration, one by one, is of course impossible. That is why we need them to self-deport, and there is no inducement to self-deportation like the prospect of incarceration in a notorious El Salvadoran prison, or at Guantanamo Bay–another great idea.
So Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem paid a visit to the prison in El Salvador, an entirely appropriate effort to publicize the reason why Venezuelan gang members should get the Hell out. She did a press conference at the prison and performed admirably, but the Democratic Party press focused on only one thing: her watch.
It was alleged, even by the normally sane New York Post, that Noem “appears to have worn a gold Rolex watch worth nearly $60,000 during her visit to a notorious hellhole prison in El Salvador on Wednesday.”
I am no connoisseur of watches, and no press report has actually confirmed that Noem was wearing a $60,000 watch. I am skeptical; not too many years ago, when Noem was a Congresswoman, she was rated the poorest member of Congress, with a negative net worth. Maybe she has gotten a book advance since then, or maybe the speculation about the watch is wrong.
Personally, I couldn’t care less. This is one of many instances–the Signal chat “scandal” is another–of the Democratic Party press trying to distract attention from the Trump administration’s achievements by hyping a faux scandal or irrelevant news story.
Who cares about Kristi Noem’s watch? I care about the fact that the Trump administration, of which Noem is a significant part, is clearing violent Venezuelan gang members out of our communities, along with many other illegals. The Democrats can’t explain why they want thousands of violent gang members to remain, illegally, inside our borders, so they prefer to talk about Kristi Noem’s watch. Pathetic.
