Snow White has gone woke in its latest remake as viewers are hit with a lengthy list of trigger warnings before the film starts. The two-hundred-million-pound film has been embroiled in controversy before its even released due to the replacement of dwarf actors with CGI and the lead actor slamming the original cartoon for its “sexist” plot.
Now the remake has doubled down on its wokery and slapped several “ridiculous” disclaimers on the film. “A woman is deliberately poisoned” and “a girl is surrounded by ominous trees” are among the warnings issued for audiences.
Less than a week before the $270million film is released, BBFC has detailed the bizarre warnings, revealed by the MailOnline. Other disclaimers include: “A couple gently kiss and are teased about being in love, a character threatens to shove something up another’s backside during a comic exchange and skeletal remains lie on the floor of a dungeon.”
“Characters drink alcohol briefly at a party,” is another warning ahead of the viewing, with “a man is shot in the chest with an arrow”, outlining one specific act within the film.
There are also “brief sword fights” and a “woman is deliberately poisoned”.
The BBFC also issued warnings ahead of the new, popular musical film Wicked, which included: “A green-skinned woman is mocked, bullied and humiliated because of her skin colour.”
Writer Simon Evans ridiculed the decision. “Trigger warnings are ridiculous and counterproductive at the best of times, dampening excitement, destroying creative, dramatic tension and creating a muffled atmosphere appropriate to an HR seminar than a movie,” he told the Mail.
“But with this one, they’ve really (Warning: Comment contains dangerous aquatic threat!) jumped the shark.”
The Disney remake stars Rachel Zegler, 23, as Snow White and Gal Gadot, 39, as the Wicked Witch. Ms Zegler previously shared how she refused to sing the song Some Day My Prince Will Come from the 1937 classic due to finding it “weird” that the film honed in on Snow White’s “love story with a guy who literally stalks her”.
